Jagannatha Svami Nayanapathagami Bhavatu Me

Jagannatha, Lord of the universe, in His Form in the great 10th century temple at Puri, Orissa, India

The underlying theme of this album is the evocation of deities of the Shakta and Shaiva sects, such as Kali, Durga and Durga's family according to the Hindu scriptures. The four Stotras and the numerous songs sung in the dulcet voice of Basavi Mukerji eulogise the Devi's mythological son, Shri Ganesh, her spouse the Lord Shiva, daughters Lakshmi and Sarasvati, Avatars Kali, Durga, Bhavani etc using Raga music forms such as Khayal, Sadara and Bhajan set to various Raga and Tala. This album is therefore a happy marriage between traditional Hindustani classical music and the Bhakti Rasa of devotion.
